Kelty promotes Icelandic Adventure at Outdoor Retailer

With 1,100 show goers entering and over 500 attending the drawing, airfare for two goes to a most deserving recipient

BOULDER, COLO. (For Immediate Release) – Kelty, in collaboration with Icelandair, Climashield, Alaska Mountain Guides, and Vasque footwear, offered all attending the 2008 Outdoor Retailer Winter Market trade show in Salt Lake City this past January an opportunity to win airfare for two to Reykjavik, Iceland as part of a promotion to give away an all expenses paid Iceland Adventure Vacation to be awarded in September, 2008.

Over 500 show attendees packed the Kelty booth and surrounding aisles for the sweepstakes drawing on Friday, January 25. With only one pair of tickets up for grabs and over 1,100 entries, Linda Burtis of Delmar, NY reported feeling confident she would win.

“Despite the long odds, I somehow knew I was destined to go to Iceland,” said sweepstakes winner Linda Burtis. “Some things in this world are just meant to be, and I feel this trip to Iceland for my mother and me is one of them. ”

After her winning ticket was drawn, Linda stepped up on the podium and relayed the following story to the crowd.

During World War II, Linda’s father, Tom Salem, was stationed in Iceland and kept in contact with Linda’s mother, Muriel, through a steady stream of letters and photos. Muriel, intrigued by the images and stories, had always dreamed of exploring Iceland with Tom.

Unfortunately, on November 4, 2007 Tom passed away unexpectedly. Shortly thereafter, Muriel was diagnosed with lung cancer and suddenly Iceland seemed out of reach.

Now, with two tickets to Reykjavik waiting, Linda hopes her mother will find the inspiration to recover completely from her recent lung cancer surgery.

“It would be difficult to imagine a more deserving winner,” said Christian Mason, Kelty marketing manager. “The story Linda told is absolutely amazing and we’re just happy to be a part of it.”

The airfare for two promotion hosted during the Outdoor Retailer trade show was designed to draw attention to the larger all expenses paid Iceland Adventure scheduled to be given away in September 2008.
