That Kelty rates this bag for zero degrees (fahrenheit) is actually dangerous. I just got done testing the bag on a night when the pre-dawn low got down to 26 degrees. It was at that point that I woke up shivering. If this bag can't keep me warm when it's a relatively balmy 26 degrees, I dread to think what could happen when someone unadvisedly takes this out in the field on a night when it actually approaches 0. Some background: I am a light, side sleeper who prefers a good deal of warmth. I have used other zero degree bags that actually did get the job done. For testing, I used a Thermarest base camp pad (your bag is only as good as your pad, and this is a WARM pad). I slept in only a base layer, with two pairs of socks. My wool cap came off early, since ironically, the top of my head stayed warm all night long. I had an old army shelter tent over me to keep off the condensation. Aside from its obvious rating error, there are other serious flaws with this bag. One feature that attracted me to this bag was the draft collar. But I was dismayed to find that it neither attaches all the way round, nor does it cinch tight. Basically it's there for show. The hood is very poorly designed, and is not able to close tight. I had the cord pulled as tight as possible, but there was still quite a large opening for cold air on my face. And since the draft collar cannot cinch closed, the cold air was also circulating throughout the entire bag. A minor annoyance was the zipper. The draft tube (the one along the length of the zipper) does not velcro closed, so the zipper kept falling free and dangling in my face. The bag is also EXTREMELY short. I am 5' 9", and my feet were right against the end. With moderate use this would lead to stretching the bag and breaking the seams. But most important of all was the fact that the bag simply did not retain body heat in 26 degree weather. I felt along the interior, and the material was cool to the touch. Even with a proper draft collar, the bag's insulation is not be enough to keep someone warm in freezing temperatures, and would be actually lethal in actual zero-degree weather. I am returning the bag today. I used to think highly of Kelty, but this bag is atrocious.
