Small Basecamp Kitchen

Well, I got to use my small basecamp kitchen for the first time this weekend. First, the unit is small, that can be a good thing! I have the "deluxe basecamp kitchen" made by a major outdoor retailer and it is nice, but, it is so big that it is a pain to carry on short outings with few people. Short comings on Kelty's take on this small kitchen are height, and the fact that the pantry is fastened to the frame. This means that one must travel with the unit extended, or load it up after one has made camp. The unit is short as well. I or any person of normal height would have a problem using the unit in a standing position. Pluses, the unit is compact! Yet, I was still able to put a weekends worth of groceries in the pantry along with the my cook set. Also, it held my 2-burner gas stove with room to spare! I set the unit up beside of the picnic table and was able to cook while seated on the picnic table bench! It was comfortable. The unit held the stove, food, and cookware, so that the picnic table was not cluttered! This in itself is a great thing! It seems fairly well made, I liked the aluminum table top, the side pockets were so small that I did not use them. So, Kelty, make it taller, have the pantry detach, and I think you will have a winner!

This thing is so small site has it listed as 27" High, 27" deep and 55" wide. The only one that is correct is the height at 27", it's only 22" Deep and ONLY 25" Wide, less that half of what's listed. I bought from another site and will be returning as soon as I can. I WOULD NOT purchase this item. UPDATE: I was very upset about the dimensions of unit mostly because I had a specfic place by my camper that I wanted to place it. The unit itself is VERY well made and I feel would last for years. Anyone that needs a small camp kitchen this would be a good unit to buy. Customer Service was excellent and took care of my concerns,will continue to buy Kelty Products based on their durablity and their Customer Service.
