I got this to replace a 15 year old Kelty Tent who’s rainfly finally expired. I considered a lot of different tents but settled on this one for is maximum versatility and ease of setup. It’s a full featured 4 person tent. While the diagram shows you sleeping 3 in a row and one at the feet I’ve found that you can fit 2x25” and 2x21” sleeping mats in a row with no problem. There won’t be room for your backpacks but that is what the two vestibules are for. Two vestibules and two entrances are another big plus, lets you leave your shoes and your gear outside. The tent has 4 internal pockets and a user installed mesh gear loft. Its tall enough for you to stand up (bent over) to change. The tent seems well ventilated. There are two mesh bars about 1 foot above ground level on either side as well as the larger mesh areas on the door and side. Clearance between tent wall and rainfly is sufficient. There are two vents in the rainfly that are popped open by something springy. You can’t close them. In use there was no condensation inside the tent but light on the vestibules outside the tent (2 adults, 2 kids, 30-40 degree nights). The thing that I hoped really set this tent apart from others is the easy of setup/takedown. There are several features that set it apart. It used two aluminum poles (which were MUCH lighter than the fiberglass poles of my old one). They are permanently fixed together on a rotating plastic cylinder. So you deploy the poles (they practically self deployed when I took them out) and rotate to form an X. There is no confusing one pole type from another. The poles slip into what kelty calls a “Jakes foot”. It is a plastic clip. They don’t “slip” in or out. There is some tension there and you have to bend down to clip them in or out. Getting the first pole in by yourself can be a little tricky, but it is easier than sticking a pin in a pole or threading a pole end into a loop. After you clip all 4 in then you just clip the top onto the cylinder that holds the two poles together vai a plastic sliding insert. The tent in its normal state is under tension. The “stakes” (aluminum Hexagonal ones included) are actually not structurally required, they just keep the thing from blowing over. There is a small string on each Jakes foot to stake with. There are attachment points on the rainfly for guylines. The ground cloth (which I purchased) and the rainfly also clip onto the jakes foot. Again they are not going to slip on and off. You have to deliberately bend down and snap them. If you try and force it you might break it which brings me to the only real concern I have about this tent. It uses plastic clips for critical components. But then so do a lot of other tents. One of the upsides of this design is that if you have the ground cloth (which is like a thin shower curtain) you can leave it clipped to the bottom of the tent since it doesn’t rely on tension from the poles to remain attached. In essence it becomes a thicker, heavier plastic bottom. This can save a lot of setup headache. When I was trying to get the ground cloth down in some gusty weather it kept blowing off the pad. Takedown was fairly easy, you just unclip everything. You have to bend down to unclip and get the poles out of the foot. Undoing the poles is a little more tricky as they are all connected via the hub. So after you have undone one set you have to hold it while undoing the other or they tend to snap back together again. Then it’s rolling it all up in the bag. With the ground cloth attached it’s a little bit of a tighter fit but as long as you roll it well it goes in. My first use of the tent was a week of car camping in the mountains of Arkansas. It worked very well. It was quick to set up, easy enough to take down. It kept us sheltered, though there were no extreme conditions of any kind. Overall I’m very happy with the tent and looking forward to years of use.
