Description

Campsite comfort and convenience is the name of the game with the Men’s Journal Gear of the Year Award-winning AirPitch™ Mach 4 tent.  By replacing traditional poles with our inflatable AirPoles, this out-sized shelter pitches in under a minute with an included high volume, dual-action floor pump.  AirPoles are rigid yet flexible and won’t bend or break like traditional poles.  An integrated, fully-vented rainfly further simplifies set-up while removable “sleep rooms” add versatility.  The Mach 4’s floorless vestibule is ideal for storing gear or just hanging out.  When it’s time to go home, just pull the plug and the AirPitch™ takes itself down.

Fantastic idea, but the execution isn't there. I brought a Mach 4 in the states over Xmas and took it home to Australia. The first night of a two day camping trip I pumped up the poles to, at my dismay, hear a slight hissing sound, and with under a minute the vestibule pole was completely flat. Not really cool for the first time use. Now I've contacted Kelty customer service with my grievance and still waiting a response. Kelty, please get in touch.

Overall a great tent. Setting it up the first time was a little more difficult than the video makes it seem. After the first setup it has been pretty fast and easy. Camped through a pretty extended downpour and it held up great. Did have a little bit of water pool on top between the vestibule and sleeping area but it didn't create an issue. Definitely a good purchase.

The first time I used this tent was in MOAB, Utah in April. It was a quick set up once you got the pumped hooked up. The small zipper pockets are not aligned with the intake valves making it difficult to hook up quickly. Set up was during the day under warm blue skies. I awoke in the morning to a snow cover tent. The vestibule worked great for 4 friends and a dog to get out of the weather. I would rather have a floor in the vestibule, and a zipper along the bottom of the front door. I couldn't stop rain and snow from coming in the bottom. And set up was a little confusing with the open floor plan. Overall the tent worked great with wind, snow, rain, heat, needy friends and a big dog. I do wish it packed down a little smaller. But I am happy with this tent.

I love this tent. It took a bit of time on first set up, but since then set up is a breeze. The vestibule is epic for storing gear or for having a private hang out. It can be quite airy when needed but stays dry when closed up. Again, I love this tent.

Love the tent. Love the vestibule. Could use a bit more ventilation. I recommend watching the video for set up before your first time and following the instructions 'cause it's super easy to set up provided you follow the steps. More importantly buy the ground sheet cause it sets up the template for a quick and easy set-up. The instructions could be more informative. For example the ground sheet loops are color coded to match the tent so you know you're on the right track. Don't set up your tent with easily distracted teenagers. It just takes longer. I bought the Mach 6 as well and will be writing the same review. Easy set up. Easy dismantle but be methodical about it.

We used this tent on a canoe trip and very happy with the quick setup of the tent. The first time we setup the tent was at night with flashlights and it was a breeze. I like the fact that there are no poles to break and the frame is built in. Plenty of room and good build quality. We are really happy with this tent.

We used this tent on our annual river camping trip and it was awesome. Set up was a breeze and although there was no rain, the wind came up several times but the tent held strong! Awesome product.

The tent setup was quick, after the first time. The only complaint is that the sleeping area was too small and the vestibule/porch area too large. Ended up returning tent and getting a Parthenon 4.

I have set this up 2 times and was stocked with size and ease of set up. I am a adventure photographer and out doors a lot. One of the things I do is a lot of rafting camping and this is perfect. The vestibule front part is the best.i can finally stand up to get dressed. A great product. It fits my lifestyle. Thank you, Jeff

We have taken the Mach 4 out for a weekend trip and it was great. I was able to set it up quickly despite "help" from my 4 and 6 year olds. The tent is roomy and comfortable with plenty of space for gear in the vestibule. The tent held up well despite high winds and heavy rain overnight. I would recommend setting it up in the yard before your trip in order to get proficient with staking it out. Once the tent is staked properly it pops right up when you inflate the airpoles.

I had recently bought a mach 4 air pitch tent and after using it a few times I had wondered why they had not came out with this technology before. The tent has performed exactly how it had been advertised the set up is quick and easy once you get the hang of it. The first time i used it rained 7 inches and I did not get wet.

We purchased the Mach 4 to have more room for our expanding family. The set up is a breeze. My 3 year old daughter loves it. Plenty of room for everyone and everything. The vestibule is great area for our dog to dry off and still be near us. Everyone who has seen it thinks it is awesome.

This tent is very easy to set up and take down. It is very spacious and the vestibule is more than adequate size as well. Ideal for car camping, as it is too heavy for backpacking. Also, it holds up to severe weather very well.

Bought this tent on Kelty's website and used it camping in March in the California Desert and in June in the California mountains. Tent is very spacious and very easy to tear down. Set up isn't quite as easy as they make it look in the video - you have to help the poles up. I find that it is easier to crawl inside and pump up the tent from the inside so that I can help the poles up at the same time. Tent must be staked in order to stand up - this is not like a dome tent that you can set up and then move wherever you want. Also, there is no floor in the vestibule area however if you buy the footprint it will create a floor for the vestibule area, so that is recommended. Tent held up well in the rain and wind. Rained on us the first night - no leaks. The wind was also fairly strong and I had no trouble once I had enough air in the poles. The front pole collapsed on me a couple of times after set up, but I found that putting a little more air into it made it stand up well in the wind. I also very much like that the tent is basically a rain fly with a removable sleep room inside, so there is no extra setup required once the tent is inflated if you leave the sleeping room attached when packing up. The clips for the removable sleep room are difficult to remove and are cheap - they break easily (I've already broken one while removing the sleep room for cleaning) - a minor disappointment for a $400 tent. Kelty should have used lightweight sliding metal clips or something of better quality. Overall I'm very pleased with this tent so far. Much less of a headache and far less time consuming to set up and tear down than my previous tent, which was a Coleman Bayside 6. Pros: Fairly easy to set up, very fast and easy to take down. Roomy and comfortable. Holds up well in rain and windy conditions. Good cross ventilation along both axes of the tent. Cons: Cheap and difficult-to-remove plastic clips holding the sleeping room in place, no floor in vestibule area requiring purchase of a $50 footprint, does not pack up small - definitely a car camping kind of tent.

Though Brian had a negative experience with the Mach 4 he was able to return the tent to the retailer for a full refund. Brian also contacted us directly to make sure that we were aware of the issue. We apologize for this rare defect and since our goal is to ensure that every customer has an outstanding experience with Kelty products we worked to help Brian find a tent that is perfect for his needs. This tent has an interesting and novel design concept. I really like the space inside, the fact that I can stand up in it and how quickly and easily it sets up. Unfortunately, the first time I set it up one of the air tubes popped a pinhole leak along a seam on the first day. Because the leak is in the groove of the seam the tape provided could not repair it and I had to dismantle the tent, pack up and go home. The plastic used for the tubes is ridiculously thin and the heat-sealed method of creating them is poorly designed for the intended purpose. I wouldn't recommend this tent to anyone until they fix the tube issue.

Set this thing up around 11 pm at our campsite. It was rocky and so pre-staking was a bit difficult (my bad on campsite choice)..... BUT once that was accomplished- PRESTO up it went! (pumped for maybe a min max) Great space on the interior, breathed well. So under the circumstances, first time setting it up I am pleased with the concept of the tent. The next day it was warm, light wind...did fine under these conditions.

Used tent in extreme weather conditions for 2 weeks and was pleased with the tent's performance. I especially liked the "garage" feature and the "liveability" of the tent. Camped on St George Island FL, a barrier island 4 miles off shore, temp range 31 to 70 degrees, wind gusts to 35mph, 6 " rainstorm, 2 tornados and 2 water spouts during the 2 week period. The front storage (garage) area allows you to keep all gear, including your bike, inside. The salt air is corrosive on the equipment, so the extra protection is great and also very roomy. The opening between the "garage" and sleeping area is large enough that, when opened, give the tent a large living area. A screened area on the front tent opening would be nice in warm weather. The frame is very sturdy and retains air pressure. Definitely recommend setting up, at home, before the first time you use it. Also recommend a Kelty foot print which gives the garage area a "floor". A Great Tent.
