I've been through some packs, and let me tell you something....this is it! I have half a mind about me to purchase 2-3 extras so that I have back-ups and gifts. This is the best day/small pack I have ever used. With all the features of a standard through-pack and the lightweight/packable size, it's super versatile. Let me explain...after a 4 day, 3 night in Glacier, I used this pack as my carry-on to take and bring everything (minus fuel and sharp objects). I was able to get the following items in:
• 1P Tent w/footprint (including poles)
• Hummingbird Hammock + straps
• Sleeping bag
• Sleeping bag liner
• Sleeping pad
• 4 days worth of clothes
• Camping pillow
• Water bladder (plus filtration system)
• 24 homemade cookies (because DUH)
AND...just when I thought it was full, my buddy couldn't fit his sleeping pad in his day pack...so I took the hip belt on this pack and used it create under-pack compression straps through the tracking pole loops. Just like that I added:
• His sleeping pad
• Flannel blanket
• 2 bottles of huckleberry wine (an airport purchase)
• 2 books
28L?!? Pffft! Simply perfect - for everything!
I'll be using this pack to ultralight in the near future!
If you've made it this far and still haven't put this in your cart, DO IT! Ian P. on Aug 30th 2017
Fit and finish is spot on.
I can put this pack on and hardly notice it.
Will be using it for hike patrols, hence the brighter color.
Great job with this one, Kelty! Harold Holdren on Aug 11th 2017
Use this pack for local search and rescue. Packs well, carries well, durable enogh for the job and simple. Bob on Jun 5th 2017
I use this pack as my non-cold weather pack for my EDC. Great for short hikes and single day trip kayaking, biking, etc. My only problem with the pack is its side water bottle holders. If the pack is not completely full my nalgene bottles fall out when I bend over, hit bumps on my bike or jump. I don't use the side bottle holders for that any more. They are now side pockets for easy access items like a flashlight or snacks. Unknown on Apr 16th 2017
I got this backpack, because I need a day pack that would go through security checks at the theme park and other places. I can pack alot of stuff for the day and having the hydration reservoir having it own pocket is great. This pack will take the place of 3 other packs for outings. Kelty makes good products. Lighter, more carrying volume and almost as cool as my summer butt pack rig. Enough room for a winter full day hike with emergency gear. Very comfortable even with some real weight in it. This bag retired everything but my multiday pack. Great design. NE Ridgerunner on Oct 1st 2016
What a great value -- quality and durable workmanship, outstanding service, very reasonable price -- Kelty always comes through for me. As a smaller companion to my classic Kelty Redwing, the Ruckus Roll Top fits my medium torso snugly and comfortably, riding the load on my hips. The minimal weight provides me extra carrying capacity, because the basic weight of the bag is so light, and with the roll top, extra volume. And the well-placed pockets give me many options for carrying my gear.
I would have preferred additional colors -- a bright orange would have looked cool.
Kelty is now competing with the best of the cottage industry makers in best value for lightweight gear. Dan on May 3rd 2016
I bought this pack as a dedicated day hiking pack to hold extra clothes, food, water, etc for short and all day adventures. The roll top works great to compress a small load or expand for a larger load. The pack is very light but handles a typical day's worth of gear with ease. The straps are comfortable enough for this packs intended purpose. First trip out was a half day 11 mile hike along the PCT and I was happy with the purchase. I do wish it had a bit bigger hip pockets as my phone wouldn't fit (Galaxy S6). Otherwise it's a great pack! Chris on Mar 29th 2016
