We went on a week long trip, like most we hope for the best but unlike many we prepare for the worst. I was hopeful that this tent would hold up and provide a comfortable sleeping space for my girlfriend and I. Setup took no time at all and I do it by myself most of the time. We placed a plastic barrier under the tent and I did steak out all the corners and pulled it tight. We also staked out the rain fly that completely covers the tent and windows and also provides a small space outside the tent near the front door for shoes or whatever and keeps them dry if you don't want to put them in your tent. I also had a space blanket silver side up in the bottom of the tent and sleeping pads on top of that. On cold nights it was easy for our own body heat to bring the tent up to a more than comfortable temp. One day it poured down rain our tent wasn't in a low area as were some but even people that camped on the hill had flooded tents, ours was dry as a bone. I keep this tent in my bug out bag, use it for small trips out of my Jeep and can't wait to take it on a river trip next week. Justin on Jun 11th 2012
I've been using this tent for sometime now (bought it late last year) and have been very satisfied that I can't think of anything seriously wrong about it. The tent- body, fly, ground sheet- packs to around 7" in length and maybe 4" in diameter (just slightly bigger than my deuter dreamlite sleeping bag). And the whole thing weights just around 5 lbs (including poles)! The water-proofing is superb. I live in a tropical country and rains are a normal part to camping here. So far, my Salida has not failed me even on heavy downpours. It's roomy enough for 2 persons (under 6') with 2 40-lit packs inside. The gear-loft and side pockets are also quite useful add-ons. Maybe it would've been nicer to have 2 doors and vestibules... Maybe better quality pegs should come with the tent.. but for the price, I think this is by far the best bang-for-buck ultralight tent in the market today. JP on Apr 11th 2012
I work for Kelty, I can assure you that we run all these questions by our product developers and managers when they come up. In response to the comment below about the Salida 2 being 84", the designer confirmed that the tent IS 88" in length, however the box is incorrectly labeled as 84". We're working to get that changed, and thank you for bringing it to our attention. If you have any questions, concerns or comments, please feel free to contact us. We always welcome customer feedback and suggestions!! April on Aug 24th 2011
The KELTY website tells the length to be 88" but who knew, get it in the mail stoked but soon disappointed with the box saying the length is 84". Pisted off now I have to pay to return product sweet. Damion on Aug 17th 2011
I purchased the Salida 2 months ago. I've used it three times in this period of time. I have been very pleased with everything from the fabric and sewing to the provided poles and stakes. Very easy setup, enough room for two people and a small amount of gear. The vestible area is pretty nice and offers enough room for two larger packs. Packs down pretty small (slightly larger than my Eureka Zues II). I wish the footprint was included, but not a big issue, I'm just still waiting for one to come in-stock. I would've given a 5-STAR rating if it was slightly lighter. Jason on Jun 20th 2011
