My husband and I have been backpacking over 35 years and in fact we have only taken a couple of vacations where we did not backpack. We are not "weekenders" either. We have taken backcountry trips in Glacier for 10 days at a time. Ironically my first pack in the early 80s was internal frame and then a few years later I got a Yukon and loved it. Last year I thought it was time to try some of the newer, highly touted internal frames. I went to the famous backpacking store and tried on 5 internal framed packs - designed for women - filled with the weight I usually carry (35#). I seriously thought I was going to have to stop backpacking as my knees started to buckle under me (and yes, the salespersons said they were fitted correctly). Finally I said that I had my old Yukon external frame in the car and could I try it for comparison. I repacked the weight in the Yukon, put it on and felt like I was walking on air. I contacted Kelty and got a new belt and straps and it was even better. We took two backcountry trips in Glacier and I had no trouble carrying the weight. Kathryn Paul on Jun 1st 2017
It's hard for me to find reviews written by women the same size as me so I thought I would do one.
I've only used the backpack for one trip so far, but I am in LOVE! Took about 20 minutes of hiking to get used to it but after that I barely even noticed it while climbing Mt. Adams in the 80 degree heat. I'm 5'5 and around 150 lbs and this size fits me perfectly, definitely wouldn't want anything larger though. I love all the external pockets and rectangular shape which makes it really easy to pack and find things. Kaili Park on Dec 6th 2016
I have had my Kelty Yukon for years. I have at least three thousand miles on this pack. I absolutely love the versatility of the external frame.
The suspension is not user friendly to get set right. There is a lot of trial and error to get everything set to your body.....once you have the pack adjusted to fit it is a dream to carry. I have been back and forth between the Yukon and several other makes and models of internal frame packs.....I always find myself coming back to the Yukon.
