I've taken the Red Cloud 90 on a few multi-day backpacking trips and it has performed flawless. The amount of gear that it holds is just right for what I was looking for. The suspension system was awesome and I was very comfortable on the hike. The fact that your gear is accessible from the top, middle and bottom was really nice as well. Seems to be good quality materials and I expect this pack to last me a really long time. Kelty got it right with this one.

Yes its a big pack...not for everyone....I was between the coyote and this. .i went for the extra room..i due alot of snow camping, hiking and it fit all my winter gear, and took one hell of a beating, Stayed dry,and fit like a dream, made those long trips a lot smoother,,,, the strap points came in handy and the separate area for sleeping bags heald my -40 bag and had room not bad...all in all its a great gear pack, a great long distance pack..if you need more room for odd sized gear or long range, or specific season pack go for it...

Just used my Red Cloud 90 on a January hike. Because of the cold, we probably carried more gear than normal. This was a time I was really glad to have a pack this size that handles the weight and volume so well. The trail we were on was very rocky and often had tight quarters to maneuver through. Another member of our party had a large external frame pack and had a hard time making it through some of those tight spots. The Red Cloud conforms well to my body and is fairly "compact" for its size. Plus, the way it fits my body was a definite plus at those times where the going was tough like climbing up or down steep rocky inclines where you are grabbing roots and rocks. It stays put. The other thing we all noted was how amazed we are by the durability of our Kelty packs (our entire group had Kelty's-one of which was made circa 1980). The packs were banging into sharp rocks, trees, etc. and took a licking. My only complaints are 1) weight and 2) straps loosening. On the first point, I fear that a reduction in weight may mean a reduction in toughness-so maybe tradeoffs there. Plus, reducing weight in other areas (tent, bag, etc.) might be better. The other point was annoying. One of the advantages of this pack are the multiple straps and adjustments that can help you conform this to your size. When the straps are snug, the pack hugs my body well and the weight doesn't seem to be a problem. However, as you hike the straps have an annoying tendency to loosen, causing the pack to move away from my body and thus feel much heavier. I was forever tightening the straps that are on each side of the shoulder straps at belly level. I finally rigged some zip ties into the buckles and straps so they don't move anymore-problem solved, but it is kind of a permanent fix so not good if you are changing into heavier or lighter garments underneath the pack. Otherwise, love this pack and wouldn't hesitate buying another. My best friend bought one for his son based on my recommendations.
