Let me start off by saying I am not, nor have I ever been, in the military so I can't speak to the "tactical" part of this pack, but I can tell you that it has the features I was looking for with regards to hiking & camping. To that end, here are my thoughts on the Redwing 50 Tactical:
Plenty of room (I like to stay organized and this will definitely let me do that)
Feels durable (will update if I find that changes)
Fits me perfectly (I am 5'9" and this pack feels like it conforms to me)
Love the color (I picked the tactical grey which is really more of a foliage green in my opinion...worked out in my favor since I wanted more of a green pack)
None at this time
Overall, I really love this pack so far and it fits all of my current needs. I would definitely buy this again. Alex on May 23rd 2018
This is a very will built pack, typical of the Kelty name. I love the heavier fabric and buckles. The grey color is extremely close to foliage green. I'm 5'8" and this pack fits me fine. The only real down side are the side pockets at the bottle of the pack. They aren't great for water bottles. I carry two GI canteens but I need to use the lower compression straps to hold them in. If they were more like the pouches on the MAP 3500 that would be awesome. Keep up the great work kelty! More earth tone colors! MTB on Apr 8th 2018
I definitely did NOT do enough research before buying this pack. Highly disappointed in the pack. For some reason, the torso length is no adjustable on this pack. What?! Why?! The regular Redwing 50 has these sort of adjustments? Definitely doesn't seem to fit no matter how much I adjust it. Ugh, wish I had noticed sooner so could return it :(
Slightly Better Zippers
Material seem better
TORSO LENGTH NOT ADJUSTABLE!
Thin padding for shoulder straps Mark on Mar 19th 2018
Got this pack for an upcoming AT hike and won't be using it. The total lack of adjustablity in the yoke is joke. I'm 6' tall and can't even use it due to the fixed position. Not really sure who thought ditching torso length adjustment was a good idea. Being acitve duty I picked this version as I wanted something with a little more durability but it's obvious the input they got (if any) was off target. This pack gets a fail in my book on multiple levels. Unknown on Mar 10th 2018
We own two of these and they are great. Super sturdy and very comfortable. Dace on Jan 9th 2018
I bought the tactical backpack for a trip to Peru thinking it would be more solid than other model, however the top handle ripped off on day 6 of the trip. The load is only 25lbs so needless to say I am very disappointed as this is a very useful feature for a pack. I will update as the trip goes on, hoping I can make it back to the US without having to buy another one.
