This pack feels great, last the test of time, and is very very durable.I have had the different variations of this pack dating back to 1999. The only reason I had had to replace the pack is because I simply wore them out or over used them. I don't think Kelty had shulping 80 pound bags of concrete mix through the back country in Alaska in mind when they designed it...but it works great for the purpose. I have hauled gravel, concrete mix, lumber, fuel, tires, carcasses, rocks, hides, and about anything else you can think of including the kitchen sink (to remote cabin in SE Alaska) with this pack. It works great as a daypack but it also serves well as a overnight or long weekend trip. It has also withstood the worst back pack torutue test I can think of over 100 flights as checked baggage if airline luggage handlers can break it you never will. In the few instances where a buckle has gotten smashed on a rock or chewed up by a dog Kelty has sent off replacements to me quick and hassle free. At 6'2" and 250lbs the pack seemed a little small at first but the Large long torso length one fits just right. As long as Kelty makes a Redwing I'll be toting one across Alaska and around the world.

I created an account purely for the purpose of reviewing this pack. I got it to use as a large capacity bookbag primarily. It is pretty decent for that purpose. I don't need a lot of organization. That's how things get lost. But it has one major flaw that caused me to discard it -- there is a rain flap that protects the zipper and the zipper is forever getting snagged on the flap. When that happens, the only way to get it loose is to cut it loose. After less than a year, my pack looked like I'd run over it with a lawnmower. I quit using it. That's annoying because there really isn't an equivalent in this size. The Redwing is pretty much it and it is pretty much useless.

This is an excellent pack!! It is supposed to be a day pack, but with all of the organizational features it has, I was able to stuff it with everything I need for a week long trip in Sawtooth national forest. Clothes, food, bag, pad, tent, filter, stove, pot, cups, everything you would need for backpacking. It was also very adjustable and comfortable! Very great pack

Awesome pack. It has lots of usable space and I've got it packed up for a two night trip, including tent. All the attachments and joints are very sturdy. The flow through pockets are great for things like tent poles, collapsible fishing poles, large survival knives (such as an Esee Junglas or RTAK II), perhaps a small rifle. Great pack that feels good on your back too. If you look around you can get a good price, here on Kelty's website it's a little overpriced but I got mine for sixty-seven dollars.

I got this pack back in July of 2010. I have used it to commute to and from work, which is 14 miles each way. I would pack it with a change of clothes and shoes, as well as a loaf of bread and other work-ish items. The fit was great for me! I am 28, 6'5 165 lbs. I have never had a pack before which was so light, durable and roomie! Nice job Kelty!!
