  1. Awesome day pack

    KELTY REDWING 32 2017 model 1/25/2018
I bought the KELTY REDWING 32 L for day hiking and snowshoeing largely because it is a very versatile backpack. The REDWING 32 with its large main compartment, seven outside pockets, two of which are mesh wand pockets and one is a stash pocket (in some genre’s known as a shovel pocket), has outstanding organizational capability…For me, each pocket has a dedicated purpose- it seemed intuitive. Also for my needs at 32L/1950 cubic Inches, this pack is not too big or too small; it handles my normal 20 pounds of gear i.e. food, stove, extra layers, first aid kit, purifier, and 100 0z reservoir just fine. In fact, I find that the REDWING 32 tends to mold to my back and is so comfortable and stable that I rarely notice it… Access to all the compartments is simple and straight forward, plus the zippers work smoothly and don’t catch on fabric. I really like the option of top-loading or panel loading feature with the big main compartment, it really is very convenient when you are out there and either need something near the top of the pack or something buried at the bottom-kudos! The stash pocket in the center of the pack is very handy for layers you may want to add or remove often or wet items that you don’t want inside your pack. Also, the sleeve behind the upper side pockets is a handy place to stow a fishing pole or trekking poles. The compression system does its job well keeping the packs contents stable particularly in rougher terrain, plus there is a lash point just behind the bar tack on each of the four compression straps, which is what I use to strap down my snow shoes when I wind up carrying them in fickle conditions. By the way, I have had good luck using “Strap Gear “tie down straps for anchoring items on the outside of my packs. The harness is very comfortable and will easily handle more load than I will subject it to, plus it breaths very well as does the supportive back panel. Also, the horizontal grey stretchy straps on both sides of the harness make a great place to run your drinking tube and bite valve thru making it handy to get to. The sternum strap is easy to adjust and stays put, and load lifters work like they are suppose to. All of this adds comfort and stability to the overall system. I like the burly grab handle, tucked away daisy chain, the trekking pole/ice axe loops and the spacious reservoir sleeve; I also like the ability to tuck away the waist belt when the need arises. The REDWINGS upside down tear drop shape is cool looking, adds balance to the pack and freedom of movement to the user. Lastly, I think having lighter colors inside the packs compartments is a plus and helps you locate items especially in subdued lighting. Personal Preferences but not deal breakers: 1. I personally would prefer at least the next size up buckle on the waist belt which would make it easier to use with gloved hands. 2. The reservoir support hooks on the inside of the main compartment are off to the side and level with the reservoir sleeve top-I think they should be anchored higher in a more vertical orientation, but then I am using an aftermarket reservoir and have found a way to keep my reservoir supported so it stays upright. 3. Add a bellows to upper side pocket to give a little more space to these pockets. All in all as it is, I really like the KELTY REDWING 32 and find it to be a well made well proportioned, sleek, and very user friendly daypack.

  2. Awesome pack for my wife

Needed a pack with all the features that was sized for a small woman. Love the Kelty Redwing 32. All the right features at the right size! on Jan 23rd 2018

  3. Great Pack, not water-resistant

Great pack, comfortable with lots of space and pockets that make sense. Extremely happy with the pack itself.
Only complaint is that it is barely water-resistant. Huge bummer in my line of work, all my belongings feel damp. Not wet, but definitely damp. It's disappointing that they didn't make water resistance a priority seemingly at all, so I guess I have to buy a cover for it. Bummer.

  4. Well designed

I spent quite a bit of time researching backpacks before making my choice. I am very happy with the Redwing 32. It is large, but doesn't feel huge on my back. The top and side pockets are very handy for those odd items you need to cram somewhere. I really like the hidden daisy chain and handles--they're great for preventing snags. I recommend this item if you need a good sized day pack for school, work, or hiking. on Nov 15th 2017

  5. Best pack by far

After making at least three different pack purchases, I finally settled and should have known to look no further than Kelty. This pack has plenty of space for gear-usb cables... power pack...small medical kit...laptop...adn leftover space for a few days worth of clothing....I mean this thing can carry anything. The pack is extremely comfortable at the same time. I ate no doubt it will be durable in the time to come as well. on Sep 13th 2017

  6. 1st time with Kelty

Haven't used yet , looks good upon arriving. I'm thinking it may be a little big for day pack , but liked the features of pole holders & 2 streatchy water bottle holders on Sep 7th 2017

  7. Awesome Daypack

I love, love this pack. It is easy to load up with gear and food. But it is definitely designed for day use and not much more. As seen in other reviews, the waist straps are super thin and start to irritate if you carry the pack for more than a couple of hours. I am also on the 'thicker side' of the spectrum when it comes to body sizes so the straps barely fit me. I am going to use this as my travel pack. I am super excited that I have managed to fit everything I need for a week-long trip abroad. Awesome pack. Can't stress that enough. on Aug 15th 2017

  8. Great pack! Minor setback

Bought this pack recently for a 3 day hike. I was able to easily load ~30lbs worth of gear/food for the trip and had a compressed sleeping bag tied underneath. Overall, I had an easy time using this backpack and can only suggest one thing. For a short hike I would assume this pack would be perfect, however after about 20 miles I realized the waist straps were slowing me down. My pack is supported mainly by my waist, but these hip straps are so thin that the load is focused and can become very uncomfortable. I had to re-adjust my straps throughout the hike to prevent serious pain. If you want to do a significant amount of miles, I would suggest buying an additional hip belt and/or sleeve to help support your pack and distribute the load across your waist. on Aug 7th 2017

  9. Redwing 32 Nice day backpack

Great small day backpack. Lots of room to adjust equipment in and around the bag. Going on a hike for the day or even a small day/night trip max 1-3 days if you pack pack it at a minimalistic way, but ideal for the day hike. Also it can be a great bug out bag too on Jul 18th 2017

  10. Just what you would expect

The Redwing has been a staple style in the Kelty lineup for as long as I can remember. This version doesn't disappoint. I have 2 of the 50's and this is my first 32. This size is perfect for day hiking with the fam when Dad needs to carry a few extra layers and such for the littles. Great organization and storage as per all Redwings. Love it. The only reason I didnt give it 5 stars is that I found myself fighting a bit with the location of the compression straps and trying to unzip the main compartment. Additionally, although it fit me great, the waist belt is on the small side and if your waist is larger than a legit 36in it may not fit you. I also would have liked to have a small pocket on the waist belt for snacks. All in all it's exactly what we have all come to love and know Kelty for. on Jun 24th 2017
